I’ve always done some form of exercise from aerobics / step classes, to military fitness bootcamps,  spin classes and home workout DVDs but have never found one that fit around work or that held my interest for longer than 6 months or so.

When Crossfit Barbaric opened in Beverley I didn’t really know anything about what Crossfit was but went along for a taster session to see if this was something I could get my teeth into. I loved it, and immediately signed up for my fundamentals and then joined as a member. That was 18 months ago and I can honestly say it is one of the best things I have ever done.

The classes are a mixture of aerobic, gymnastic and weightlifting work – I know sounds scary, but everything is scaleable, everything is explained and broken down so that you can understand the movements and focus on developing the skills and techniques to achieve the movements in your own time.

But Crossfit is more than this, it’s a family – this may sound cliché but I have made some amazing friends at this place, and the atmosphere it electric. Everyone is there to support you, give you pointers, cheer you on, get you through those last few reps even when you feel like you’ve got nothing left to give.

Crossfit Barbaric has allowed me to find out what I am capable of physically, and that grows with every week, I am in the best shape I have ever been in physically and love the tone and definition that I am developing, but it has also made me strong not only physically but mentally. It allows me the space to unwind from work, to just focus on the workout at hand and put the world away for 60 minutes – with a group of like minded people who are always there with a ‘high five’, ‘a fist bump’ and the biggest cheers in the world.

Crossfit Barbaric encompasses everything that Crossfit is about, so if you want to try something new, grow stronger, push yourself physically and mentally but more importantly be part of an amazing community – come along and give it a try!
